Ann Uhlar Carey

Ann Uhlar Carey of 5515 Maria Drive, St. James City, passed away on April 5, 2010 at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral from complications after suffering a stroke in January, 2009.

Ann was born on Pine Island, Jan. 22, 1917 and graduated Fort Myers High School Class of 1934. She then moved to Marblehead, Massachusetts where she met her husband and raised her children. Ann moved back “home” to Pine Island permanently in 1978. She worked as a home health care provider on the island for about 10 years until her retirement. She loved tending her property and playing Scrabble and Bingo.

“Grammie” as she was known to many, will be dearly missed by her children Glen Carey of Pine Island and Gale (Chuck) Clark of Marblehead, Massachusetts. Devoted grandmother of Jessica and Kelley Clark of Marblehead; Kristen Clark of Rome, Italy and Colin, Sean and Logan Carey of Munster, Indiana.

She was predeceased by her parents, Katie and Mike Uhlar; her brothers, John, Joe and Mike Uhlar; her sisters, Maria (Mary) and Helen Uhlar, all of Pine Island and her sister, Katie Gillis of Marblehead. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she leaves her sister, Martha Brown of Marblehead and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, April 15, at 10 a.m. followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers.
