A memorable visit
To the editor:
My wife and I recently spent time on Matlacha and Pine Island visiting our good friend, Bob Macomber. Our experience on the islands is something that we will long remember. The places we visited and the people we met were simply wonderful. We have formed lasting friendships and look forward to returning.
As an amateur writer and poet, I could not help but express my appreciation of the islands with poetry. It is a small token to say thank you to your wonderful community.
The Islands
A beauty rests upon these isles
Silent in peaceful hues,
A beauty painted in shades of life
Pastels of ships and crews.
A beauty rests upon these isles
Found deep in hearts and minds,
A beauty that grows and spreads its wings
Alight on faith and joy to find.
As mangroves spread their roots of life
For generations yet to be,
So islanders spread their love
Spawned from earth to sea.
Here time has no place
Nor are shadows cast,
For light abounds in all that’s seen
And what lies hidden in isle’s ancient past.
What you see is not of earth
But of the souls of those who live,
Love is what rules this realm,
A single pulse of those who give.
Routing will not be found
Haste will have no place,
Ease is all you’ll find
Nature in all her grace.
With fondest regards,
