Fort Myers police investigating double homicide
Fort Myers police are investigating a shooting that left two men dead in Fort Myers Monday night.
The Fort Myers Police Department received a call from Lee Memorial Hospital at 7:41 p.m. after two people arrived in their emergency room with gunshot wounds.
Jessie Reyes, 30, and a second male, identified as Jermaine Thomas, 21, died at the hospital, officials said.
In the early stages of their investigation police have learned that Robert Ortiz, 34, and Jessie Reyes had parked in a driveway in the 3100 block of St. Charles Street to pick up a friend, when two males suddently jumped into the backseat of their car.
Reyes and one of the intruders, later identified as Thomas, began to shoot at each other, officials said, adding Ortiz and the other unknown male ran from the car. Ortiz returned to the car when the shooting stopped and drove both victims to the hospital.
Police have recovered two weapons from the car.
Police are still trying to determine all of the details in the ongoing investigation, officials said.
