A man wanted for questioning in a Fort Myers shooting was struck by a patrol car before being taken into custody Thursday after he fled from police and then raised a weapon in the direction of pursuing officers, authorities said.
Detectives investigating a shooting near the intersection of South Street and Highland Avenue Wednesday developed Patrick Boston Jr., 19, as a suspect, officials said, adding no one was hurt in that incident.
On Thursday, Fort Myers police received information on where to find Boston. At 2:42 p.m. police located him driving a car and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, police said.
Boston continued driving and then, at a slow rate of speed, Boston and a 14-year-old passenger jumped from their moving car in the area of Markland Avenue and Ballard Road. The vehicle went off the road and into a ditch. Meanwhile, Boston and the juvenile, both of whom were both armed with guns, attempted to flee on foot, police said.
While attempting to escape, Boston raised his firearm in the direction of the officers causing them to feel threatened for their lives. Officers struck him with a patrol car. Boston fell to the ground and dropped the gun but got back up and ran. After a short foot pursuit police apprehended both of Boston and the teen and recovered firearms.
The circumstances involved in the shooting on Wednesday are part of an ongoing investigation.
Boston is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon from Wednesday’s shooting and the following charges from Thursday’s incident: Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; child neglect, resisting an officer; driving with a suspended license; unlawful display of a firearm during a felony and fleeing and eluding.
The juvenile has been charged with resisting arrest and possession of a firearm by a minor.
