Nearly $4,000 in prescription drugs were stolen from a Publix pharmacy in southwest Cape Coral, according to a police report.
Emilie Gillis, a pharmacist at the store at 1616 Cape Coral Parkway W., told police that more than 1,000 tablets totaling $3,828.60 had been taken from two locked narcotics cabinets. The report states that Oxycodone, Oxycontin, Focalin XR, MS Contin CR and codeine sulfate tablets were stolen.
According to the report, Gillis locked the pharmacy at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday and at that time all the narcotics were accounted for and in their proper locations. The grocery store stayed open until 9 p.m. She unlocked the pharmacy Monday and conducted business as usual until about noon.
At that time, Gillis noticed the Oxycodone had been removed from a locked narcotics cabinet, the report states. A closer inspection revealed that the pharmacy door and two narcotics cabinets had been pried open and 1,398 tablets of various types had been removed.
Store video showing two possible suspects was obtained, according to the report. Gillis completed a sworn statement on behalf of Publix stating that they will press charges.
