Cape Coral man dies in single car crash
A Cape Coral man died Wednesday after the vehicle he was operating traveled off the roadway and crashed into a tree in south Fort Myers.
Jonathan D. Perez, 22, was driving a 1996 Honda south on Bass Road in the left turn lane when he approached the South Healthpark Drive intersection. A report from the Florida Highway Patrol states that the Honda traveled into the grassy median and the car’s front portion struck a construction sign.
According to the report, the Honda continued to travel south. The front left portion of the car struck a tree and began to rotate counter clockwise. The Honda came to rest facing east, partially in the median, in the left turn lane.
The report states that Perez was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital and later pronounced dead.
Perez was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and alcohol was not a factor in the accident, officials said.
