Update: Gulf Elementary lockdown lifted
Gulf Elementary is no longer under lockdown this afternoon after officials determined a student’s report of seeing a man with gun was false.
The school has been cleared and parents can pick up their children at the regular time, officials said.
Cape Coral police received the call at 1:27 p.m. after a student reported seeing saw a man holding a gun, said police spokeswoman Connie Barron. The school was placed on lockdown and police headed to the school, standard procedure following this type of report.
According to officials with the Lee County School District, the school was on lockdown for “precautionary reasons” because there is “police activity in the area.”
It remained under lockdown until officials determined, from speaking with the student, that the child’s report of seeing a man with a gun exit a restroom was false.
The school was given an “all clear” and students were allowed to leave at the regular dismissal time.
Gulf Elementary is located at 3400 S.W. 17th Place.
