The Cape Coral Chorale is holding an open house for men of all ages who enjoy singing on Monday, March 22.
Howard M. Wright, who handles public relations for the group, said the Cape Coral Chorale hosts an open house once a year after its annual concert, which was held last weekend, to invite new members into the chorus.
“We have about 50 members right now and if we can make it bigger that would be great,” Wright said.
He said the chorale is open to any male of any age who is interested in singing the barbershop style of music, which is a four-part harmony of a lead, bass, baritone and tenor.
The lead usually sings the melody, the tenor tends to harmonize above the melody, the bass sings the lowest notes and the baritone is known to complete the chord.
“It’s a lot of fun to harmonize with others,” Wright said.
No experience is necessary for those who wish to attend the open house.
“The important thing is that most of the guys in the chorus do not read music,” he explained. He said they use learning tapes and new song learning techniques to teach the members how to sing the four different parts of barbershop music.
Wright said the idea of the open house is to expose individuals to the barbershop style of music.
The open house will be held at the Tony Rotino Center, located at 5817 Driftwood Parkway in Cape Coral, from 7-9:30 p.m.
