Volunteers needed
To the editor:
Volunteers are needed to help control the feral cats on Pine Island. We will be working directly with Lee County Animal Services to solve this problem.
Volunteers are needed to set and check traps, drive the cats to Lee County Animal Services in Fort Myers for neuter/spay and pick up cats to return to Pine Island.
If we have enough volunteers to help on this project, it will only require one day a month of your time. The only days the county will do this service for us is Wednesday and Thursday.
What we don’t need is dozens of cats breeding and roaming the island. In a short time, it can turn into hundreds — the result of irresponsible owners.
I have taken one of the cats from Winn-Dixie and given it a home with me. She is a wonderful, sweet, amazing cat. It would be nice if we could find homes for more of these cats once they are fixed by the county.
You can sign up for this project at the White House Plantation Feed and Garden Center, 8482 Stringfellow Road or call me at 283-3456.
