Dorothy June Martens
Born to Eternal Life on Feb. 22, 2010, at the age of 85. Survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Thomas Martens. Loving and devoted mother of Thomas Jr. (Brenda), Carol (Gary) Schmidt, Kim (Alan) Bogadi, Elizabeth Martens, and Dawn (Kerry) McKinley. Loving grandmother of Crystal, Adrian, Brandon, and Cainan Martens; Eric (Melissa), Travis (Sarah Ryan), and Jason Schmidt; Jennifer, Thomas, Christopher Bogadi and Stephanie (Ronald) Henoch; Heather, Charles Jr., and Heidi Thomas; Megan and Katherine McKinley. Great-grandmother of Brooklyn, Damian, Makayla, and Sadie. Dorothy is further survived by her brother, Albert (Jean) Trakowski; brothers-in-law William Martens and Jack Martin; sisters-in law Doris Ross, Joan Mackey and Shirley Martens, nephews, nieces, extended family and dear friends. Preceded in death by her sisters, Phyllis and Carol.
Born in the Town of Lake, Dorothy married Tom, on July 27th, 1946 and raised their family in Oak Creek, WI. As members of Grace Lutheran Church, she served as a member in the choir, Ladies’ Guild, and as a Sunday School teacher. She was active in scouting as both a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, an active member of the PTA, and served as a Red Cross volunteer. In 1980 the family moved to Easton, MD and became members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She and Tom retired to St. James City, FL. in 1991 where they joined Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Coral.
During her lifetime, Dorothy enjoyed music, needlework, camping, travel, golf, rummy with her grandchildren, “penny” poker, and the company of her family and friends. Her unwavering faith, quick wit, caring spirit, and loving touch will be deeply missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 706 SW 6th Avenue, Cape Coral, Florida on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 1 p.m.
