Armed burglar targeting cars in North Cape
Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help identifying an unknown armed thief, believed to be responsible for at least five vehicle burglaries, and possibly more, in the 2200 block of NW 7th Terrace in Cape Coral.
Surveillance video caught the thief approaching the victim’s residence and checking door handles on each vehicle in the driveway. The suspect eventually came across an SUV that had been left unlocked, which he promptly let himself into. He remained inside the vehicle for nearly 12 minutes, before exiting the truck through the rear passenger door.
Detectives with the Cape Coral Police Department say the man is responsible for a handful of recent car burglaries in North Cape Coral, and could possibly have targeted other areas. Unlike with typical car burglaries, the suspect in this case is armed with a large black handgun, tucked into the back of his pants. Surveillance photographs clearly show the weapon, which would be easily accessible to the suspect if he was confronted.
The suspect is described as a white male, in his early to mid 20s, with a medium build, approximately 6’0″ tall. Anyone with information on this suspect, and his current whereabouts, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for up to $1,000 in cash rewards. Tips may also be made online at www.swflcrimestoppers.org.
