Temple Beth Shalom of Cape Coral will host its inaugural Jewish Food Fest this weekend to bring traditional cooking to city residents.
On Sunday, Feb. 28, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the temple will offer Jewish-style deli sandwiches, matzoh ball soup, knishes, bagels with lox and other traditional items. A bake sale will also be held during the day.
Temple members decided to organize the festival to share some of their favorite cooking with the community.
“Food is always fun and we have authentic Jewish mothers who do the cooking, and they have been cooking for our congregation for years,” said Laurie Warren, congregation member. “The food is so good that it’s only right we share it with the community.”
Besides sampling different dishes, Warren said there are approximately 20 vendors selling arts and crafts — jewelry, cutlery and mail-order food products, for example — to the community. Bounce houses will be set up on the temple grounds, free of charge, and a balloon animal station is available for children.
Warren said there will be raffles throughout the day including a chance to win two new mountain bikes.
Ultimately, the festival is a chance for the temple to raise money for the local synagogue, said Warren. Proceeds will be used to support temple activities and the religious school that enrolls approximately 20 students.
The festival will be on temple grounds at 702 SE 24th Ave., Cape Coral.
