SJCCA Art Expo 2010 to showcase area artists
The second annual Art Expo is set to take place this weekend at the St. James City Civic Center in St. James CIty. On Saturday, Feb. 27, from 1 to 8 p.m. and again on Sunday, Feb. 28, members of the St. James City Civic Association is pleased to present Art Expo 2010 at their facility located on the corner of Fourth Avenue and Lemon Street. This two-day event will feature artists of the Greater Pine Island area with work shown and for sale with drawings from JoAnne Niven, drawings and paintings by Carole Steinfeldt, fabric by Jamie Richard, glass and concrete by Dianne King, Jewelry by Marc Aune, Sara Aune, Suzy Bloom, Gay Cable, Joan S. Clark, Ele Solterra and metal work by Wayne Harms and Bob Maker, mixed media by George R. Knieriem, painted furniture by Meredith Higgins, paintings by Kathleed Concover, Peg Cullen, Eileen Felice, Cynthia Harris, Lisa Lohr, Marie Morrison, Linda Selleck and Beth Ward, paintings and drawings by Honora Seidler, paintings and sculpture by Rachi Farrow, pastels by Judy Batchelder, photography by Mike Astle, Sharon Lee Astle, Fred Brazee, Carol Hoyem, Ken Johnsen, Randy King, Philip Largays, Ron Mayhew, Philip Osborne, David Priest and Lynn Sarda, photography and cards by Jan Clement, rococo rifles by Homer Dangler and watercolor and acrylics by Marilyn Nash and Mary Ann Watson.
The festivities will begin with a “meet the artist” reception on Saturday between 7 and 8 p.m. and the public is invited to come and enjoy the works of art and chat with each of the artists. In addition, traditional blue grass music will be performed by local artist Peg Cullen and her husband Bob and friends, St. James Creek. Hors d’ouvres and wine also will be provided for those visiting the event.
St. James City Civic Association, Mary Ann Harms, extended a thank you to all of the artists who will be returning for a second year as well as newcomers to the expo.
“It’s exciting to sponsor our local artists with a show exclusively for the Greater Pine Island artists,” said Harms. “We are sure everyone attending the show will find their own favorites. Not to be missed is the unusual work of Homer Dangler, who hand carves historic Kentucky fire arms.”
Participants this year hail from St. James City, Bokeelia, Pineland and Matlacha, many of whom are award winning artists and photographers. Participating for a second year is St. James City artist and musician Peg Cullen.
“It is so nice to have an event like this in St. James City. There is so much that goes on at the Civic Center all of the time and this will help to let the people of the area know that is an active place with lots to do,” said Cullen. “It is also a great opportunity for people to meet the artists who will be exhibiting at the expo and to get more familiar with St. James City.”
Cullen, an award-winning artist, is the current president of the local chapter of American Pen Women.
All of the artist’s work will be for sale during the two-day event with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to the St. James City Civic Association to help defray the cost of maintaining the building and grounds. Admission is free both days along with ample parking.
