Tax preparer celebrates 30 years in business
Ensuring islanders get the best return possible, Dallas Stanfield will celebrate 30 years in business this tax season. Specializing in income tax preparation, Stanfield takes care of the task of filing the appropriate paperwork to Uncle Sam for not only individuals, but businesses, payroll tax reports, corporations, sole proprietors, trusts, partnerships, small business accounting and state returns. Stanfield also can take care of other needs such bank account statement balancing and assistance in forming a corporation or LLC. Stanfield also will E-file tax returns free of charge.
“Snowbirds need not rush back north to have your tax returns filed, we prepare all forms of state taxes,” Stanfield said. “We want your business and will use every legal deduction that may benefit you.”
Each year tax forms change and this year is no exception.
“There are two important forms this year that will help save taxpayers money. One is for those working who can earn up to a $400 credit and the other is a credit on your real estate taxes or toward a major purchase like a home, an RV, etc. The best part is you can file these forms even if you don’t do a long form,” said Stanfield. “Another important change is capital gains taxes. If you fall into the 25 percent tax bracket or less, you will pay nothing in capital gains taxes. Also, those who collected unemployment last year will be tax exempt for the first $2,400 they collected.”
After having prepared taxes on the island for 30 years, Stanfield said he maintains working relationships with some of his clients even after they have moved away.
“We have clients who return to the island after moving as far away as Sun City, The Villages, Naples, Punta Gorda and out of state to have us prepare their tax returns,” Stanfield said.
Stanfield was born in Lexington, Kentucky and at the age of four, his parents relocated to Dayton, Ohio where he graduated from high school. After school Stanfield joined the U.S. Air Force, then completed a course in income tax preparation in 1972. He also has attended IRS and other continuing education classes at Edison College and enrolled in agents seminars. Stanfield married his wife, May, in 1998 who, at the time, was a nurse. Since meeting Stanfield, Mary has taken an H&R Block Income Tax course, attended seminars and works in the office alongside her husband during tax season.
Bokeelia residents, the Stanfields are active in the Pine Island community as members of the First Baptist Church of Pine Island, the Pine Island Elks Lodge and the Masonic Club. Also working seasonally at Stanfield’s Service and Sales, Inc. is part-time St. James City resident, Helen Haywald who is a receptionist and qualified tax preparer.
