Art Association to present annual show and sale
Local aspiring artists have been gathering in Matlacha for decades to learn from others and perfect their craft at the Pine Island Art Association. As a result, this group has produced many accomplished artists who have since gone on to make a name for themselves both locally and nationally. To showcase the efforts of those attending the PIAA meetings and classes, organizers will present the annual Pine Island Art Association Show and Sale this weekend. This two-day event will attract hundreds of art enthusiasts from near and far to the Matlacha Community Center on Saturday, Feb. 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and again on Sunday, Feb. 14, also from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. No admission is charged to view the show and ample parking is available in the Matlacha Community Park.
For 38 years, the artists from PIAA have displayed works in various mediums at the show and this year attendees will find a selection of works depicting Florida landscapes, birds, flowers, fish and wildlife in watercolor, acrylic, oil paint and pastels. These works will also be available for purchase during the show and each is professionally framed and ready to hang. With more than 500 works of art on display, those in the market for a special piece that reflects the tropical feel of Southwest Florida, organizers assure that there will be something suitable to complement any decor. The artwork on display represents the work of more than 100 local novice and accomplished artists.
For those who do not have the room for a large piece, also offered again this year will be a large selection of original mini paintings. Also produced in various mediums, the 3 -1/2X4-1/2 paintings are suitable for display in small spaces as well as will fit easily into a travel bag or can be mailed at a reasonable cost. These paintings are all double matted and make great keepsakes or gifts for friends and family. The cost of the minis is just $10 each which includes state sales tax and frame kits designed to fit the small paintings will be available for purchase for an additional $10.
Again this year, those attending to the show will be offered the opportunity to participate in a drawing for two special pieces produced by members of the PIAA. Each year, members vote for two works to be offered in the drawing that are produced by members of the Art Association.
During the two-day event, members of the Art Association will greet attendees at the door and be on hand to answer questions and invite visitors to sample home baked snacks that can be enjoyed either before or after touring the show.
