Valentines Day is fast approaching and that means one thing: the return of Singing Valentines.
The Cape Chorale Singing Valentines program has been warming hearts for nearly two decades, and this year is no different.
Quartets spend three days roaming all corners of the county, surprising people at home and at work.
Chorale member Howard Wright said the reactions from people who are surprised by the singing Valentines are his favorite part.
“I look at the face of the people and their eyes … you simply cannot believe their reaction,” he said.
For $45, people can order up a singing quartet for their friends or loved ones.
The quartet arrives clad in tuxedos, singing two songs and hands out a single rose, a box of candy and a personalized card.
The quartets begin performing Friday, Feb. 12, and sing all the way through Valentine’s Day.
Part of the proceeds go to benefit the Pediatric Speech Therapy program at Lee Memorial Hospital, according to Wright, who added that Cape Chorale has donated more than $30,000 to the program during the Signing Valentines’ 14-year run.
The Cape Chorale is a group of men with varied ages and occupations that sing in barbershop style harmonies, that’s open to anyone in the community.
Wright said he really looks forward to performing for people during their three-day run of Singing Valentines, by bringing joy and surprise to people’s lives.
“The most important thing is the joy we get for performing for these individual people,” he said. “That’s why we do it. And we get to help out Lee Memorial Health System.”
