February programs at Pine Island Public Library
Next month’s roster of activities at Pine Island Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:
Adults
Book Discussion: Garth Stein’s “The Art of Racing in the Rain”
1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25
“The Art of Racing in the Rain,” by Garth Stein, is narrated by a dog, Enzo, who believes from watching a documentary that in his next life he will be a human man. While limited as a dog (he has no thumbs) he tries to learn as many human attributes as he can by paying attention to the humans around him, especially his master Dennis Swift, a semi-pro race car driver whose life has taken some tragic turns. As Enzo looks back over his life, he retells his and Denny’s story with great insight and compassion. A heart-wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty, and hope; “The Art of Racing in the Rain” is a beautifully crafted and captivating look at the wonders and absurdities of human life…as only a dog could tell it.
