‘Paws for Patriots’ coming to Pine Island
On Jan. 25, Helen Arnold, Community Outreach Coordinator for the Southeastern Guide Dogs will be presenting information on the programs they offer. Paws for independence partners people with visual impairments with professionally trained guide dogs during the 26-day stay at at their campus, Paws for Patriots partners veterans with visual impairments and other disability with guide dogs and therapy dogs. gifted canine provide organizations and individuals with special needs with dogs who excel in narcotic or arson detection, search and rescue,therapy and other specialized careers.
Come learn how you and your group, club, organization, company can become involved and help with efforts to provide guide dogs for those who cannot afford them. From the information we have been provided, veterans do not receive funding from the government to obtain thee guide digs. The fully allocated cost of a guide dog is $60,000. It is our hope to have all organizations that assist veterans in any way in attendance.
This presentation is a regularly scheduled meeting of the Greater Pine Island Lions Club on Monday, Jan. 25, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Fishers of Men Lutheran Church, 10360 Stringfellow Road, St. James City, just south of the four-way-stop on the east side of the street. Refreshments will be served. A short meeting will follow.
