North High dance program to present show

By Staff | Dec 15, 2009

Dance majors from North Fort Myers High School will put on their bi-annual performance Friday night.
Leslie Frasier, parent of a student-dancer at the school, said Friday’s production of “A Knight in Las Vegas” begins inside the high school’s auditorium at 7 p.m. and costs $5 per person.
“There is a dance major program that does two productions a year,” said Frasier, “one at the end of the school year and one at the end of the first semester.”
Twenty-two students are enrolled at the school as dance majors who study choreography, performance, ballet, modern and other dance techniques.
Frasier said she wants the community to attend Friday’s performance to see the program.
“The dance program at North High is very good, but it doesn’t get much attention,” said Frasier.
Besides North High, there are two other performing art schools at Cypress Lake High in Fort Myers and in Lehigh Acres. She pointed out that Marcus Cunningham, a graduate of North High, was on FOX-TV’s “So You Think You Can Dance.”
Frasier said the school is trying to recruit new students for the dance program, but said many performing art students decide to use School Choice to get into Cypress Lake.
“When you think dance and public school, you think Cypress Lake,” she said. “I want people to come out and see the show and see that the program is really good.”
