National organizations recognize local health care leaders

By Staff | Dec 8, 2009

Two Lee Memorial Health System executives — John Iacuone, M.D., executive director of The Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, and Doug Luckett, FACHE, chief administrative officer for Cape Coral Hospital and Gulf Coast Medical Center — have earned recognition by two of the most influential health care organizations in the nation.
Dr. Iacuone has been selected to serve on the governing council of the American Hospital Association Section for Maternal and Child Health. His three-year term begins Jan. 1, 2010. As a member of the governing council, Iacuone will serve with 14 other individuals that represent health care leadership from some of the country’s leading women’s and children’s health care systems. The group will advise on member service strategies, public policy issues, advocacy positions and other issues as they emerge.
The governing council also participates in the American Hospital Association’s overall policy development process, often identifying and tracking issues of special interest to the types of organizations and services they represent.
“Dr. Iacuone came to Lee Memorial Health System a little more than three years ago and has made great strides in the provision of children’s services to our region,” said Jim Nathan, president of Lee Memorial Health System, in a prepared statement released Tuesday.
Doug Luckett, FACHE has received the Regent’s Senior Executive Award this year from the Western Florida Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
“Doug became a part of LMHS when two local HCA hospitals joined our system in 2006, and he really was the anchor for his team during the transition. Now, he leads two of our hospitals — Cape Coral Hospital and Gulf Coast Medical Center,” Nathan said.
“The recognitions that Dr. Iacuone and Doug have earned truly demonstrate the kind of caring, committed leadership that can be found throughout Lee Memorial Health System,” Nathan said. “These two leaders remind us daily that it takes dedication and a lot of heart to fulfill our mission of meeting the health care needs of the residents and visitors of Southwest Florida.”
