Benard C. Provoncha, of St James City, passed away Nov. 28, 2009, at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, Fla.

He was born Oct. 22, 1927, in Bristol, Vt., to Theressa and Ernest Joseph Provoncha, who preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Provoncha; sister, Kay Vaughn and her husband, Leslie, of Palm Bay, Fla.; brother, Francis Provoncha and his wife, Marian, of Bristol, Vt.; daughter, Patty Roe, of Pasadena, Md.; son, Steve Provoncha, of Maryland; daughter, Sandra Compton and her husband, Danny, of St. James City; daughter, Linda Crooks and her husband, Drew, of Franklin Tenn.; son, Truman Cornett, of Louisville, Ky.; son, Floyd Cornett and his wife, Theresa, of Jeffersonville, Ind.; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Barney served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1947. He spent most of his life working as a long haul truck driver. After retirement he moved to St. James City in April 1980 and founded and managed a business, “Barney’s Lawn Service” for 10 years, selling the business in 1990. He also managed the Shangri La Mobile Home Park for 28. He was a life member of the P.I. VFW, and the P.I. American Legion. He was a member of the P.I. Moose and a charter member of the P.I. Elks.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church where the funeral was held on Dec. 5. A memorial ceremony and luncheon were held at the American Legion following the church service.
