Man shot during home invasion
A North Fort Myres man is recovering from gunshot wounds suffered in a home invasion robbery.
Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to 7937 Marx Drive at approximately 3:13 a.m. Thursday in reference to a shooting. When deputies arrived they found the victim, identified as Gary Lee Adkins, 54, who told them three white males in their late teens to early 20s had entered his home and shot him.
Investigators with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit met with witnesses and gathered evidence from the scene.
Adkins was transported to an area hospital where he later provided deputies with a statement. He said the three suspects who entered his home demanded money and a firearm. At some point during the confrontation, they shot him.
Adkins remains hospitalized and was listed as being in good condition THursday afternoon.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Robbery Unit has assumed the investigation. Detectives are asking anyone who may have been in the area of Marx Drive in Suncoast Estates who may know something about this incident to contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at (239) 477-1000, or Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
