Armored truck robbery

By Staff | Dec 1, 2009

On Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at approximately 4:46 p.m., deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Fifth-Third Bank, located at the 13581 Golden Wood Drive, Fort Myers, in reference to an armed robbery of a Brinks’ truck. When deputies arrived on scene they learned two Brinks’ employees were robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot by two Hispanic male suspects. Due to the nature of the incident, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Robbery Unit assumed the investigation.

Detectives met with the victim and witnesses to the incident. It was determined the suspects removed an undisclosed amount of money from the truck. They then fled the scene in an older model red Grand Prix or Grand-Am. The suspects are described as having light colored skin, 20s, 5’8-5’10, 160-170lbs, with regular length black hair. They never entered the bank.

During the commission of the crime, one of the suspects struck one of the Brinks’ employees over the head with a firearm. That employee was transported to a local hospital. His condition is unknown at this time. No other injuries occurred during the incident.

Anyone with information regarding this violent robbery is asked to call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at (239) 477-1000, or Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS. Callers will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.

There is no additional information at this time. When additional information becomes available, media will be updated.
