Southwest Florida International Airport reports October traffic

During October, 470,931 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport, a decrease of 4.3 percent compared to October 2008. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is down 2.6 percent over the same period last year.

The traffic leader in October was Delta with 76,935 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (68,521), AirTran (68,181), US Airways (50,123) and JetBlue (46,265).

Southwest Florida International Airport had 5,532 aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings), a decrease of 11 percent compared to October 2008. Page Field General Aviation Airport saw 6,414 movements, a 29.3 percent increase from October 2008. In addition, more than 3.3 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in October 2009.

Southwest Florida International Airport served more than 7.6 million passengers in 2008 and is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic.
