The Wellness Center of Cape Coral will host the Third Annual Family Health and Safety Fair, a free community event for children and families, this weekend.
The Heart and Soul Massage Therapy Day Spa has teamed up with the center for the last three years and has formerly scheduled the event around Make a Difference Day, but this year’s national day for helping other people is not until Nov. 16.
“That (The Wellness Center of Cape Coral) is an awesome facility a lot of people didn’t know about. We wanted to take advantage of that to bring programs to the community that people aren’t aware of,” said Debbie Fasenmyer, organizer of the fair.
Each year the fair is dedicated to a hero in the community. Last year it was for Fort Myers police officer Andrew Widman. This year the event is dedicated to Cape Coral police officer Damien Garcia, who was injured in a motorcycle accident.
Thirty tables will be set up from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at 609 S.E. 13th Court with information for residents of all ages.
“We are kind of gearing it so there is something for everybody, from small kids to seniors,” Fasenmyer said.
Besides providing information about local agencies and hosting live entertainment, the fair also collects canned food for the Cape Coral Caring Center and supplies for military personnel, including wet wipes, blankets, bug spray and toilet paper.
“We are also able to find Christmas cards for the troops to send in time for Christmas,” she said.
Lee Memorial Health System will accept blood donations.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Cape Coral Police Department and American Red Cross will also set up demonstrations and emergency response vehicles. Children will have the opportunity to get fingerprinted for free.
Prizes will be raffled off throughout the day, including a relaxation basket valued at more than $100.
