County step closer to purchasing land for Red Sox facility

By Staff | Oct 28, 2009

The Lee County Board of County Commissioners unanimously agreed Tuesday to move forward on the purchase and agreement with Watermen-Pinnacle Inc. for the new Boston Red Sox training facility.
During the meeting, the board set the final closing date for purchasing the 106-acre site for April 15.
The county entered into the purchase and sale agreement with Waterman-Pinnacle Inc. on June 2.
The initial date for the final plans to be approved was Oct. 1, which was not achieved by the county nor the Red Sox. The seller then issued two extensions, with the final date being granted for Oct. 12.
Lee County Attorney David Owen said the county “needs to have the land in our ownership” in May or June.
The land is located on the north side of Daniels Parkway in South Fort Myers.
