Pine Island does Care

By Staff | Oct 27, 2009

To the Editor:

Saturday, Oct. 17, my husband and I and great-grandchildren went to St. James Civic Center to check over the Pine Island Cares event that was sponsored by the Beacon of Hope.

What a wealth of knowledge was offered to the people of Pine Island within the confines of that building. Eye exams, skin cancer checkup, diabetic testing, blood pressure check. Information on flu shots, hurricane planning for people with special needs. There was a craft table for the youngsters. Absolutely, something for everyone. There was even a bus to take you to the Pine Island Medical and Dental Office on Stringfellow Road and it returned you to the Civic Center.

And, to top everything off, there was a free pancake breakfast to keep up your strength as you made your way around the room.

Congratulations and kudos to the Beacon of Hope for a well planned offering to the people of Pine Island.
