A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. will arrive Nov. 14 to examine all aspects of the policy, procedures, management, operations and support services of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Verification by the team that the agency meets the commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain re-accreditation, a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.
The LCSO achieved accreditation in 1991, and re-accredited in 1995, 1997, 2001, 2003 and 2006.
As part of the on-site assessment, members of the community and agency employees are invited to offer comments on the services and performance of the LCSO at a public information session.
The session will be held at 6 p.m. Nov. 16 in the Training Room at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, 14750 Six Mile Cypress Parkway, Fort Myers.
If for some reason an individual cannot speak at the session but would like to provide comments to the assessment team, he or she may do so by telephone.
The public may call 477-1634 from 1-5 p.m. Nov. 16.
Telephone comments as well as appearances at the session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the LCSO’s ability to comply with CALEA’S standards.
