South Cape Street Market opens in November
The South Cape Street Market, which is operated by the Community Redevelopment Agency and features more than 70 vendors, will begin its six-day run Nov. 7.
CRA Public Relations Manager Helen Ramey said the event, now in its third year, began to bring thousands of people to the South Cape to discover what the area has to offer.
“Many visitors may not be familiar with this portion of the city and if they come to the street market afterward, they could discover the unique stores such as Paesano’s Italian Market and the many, many restaurants in the district,” she said.
Ramey said the event, which is similar to the street markets found throughout Europe, has been successful over the years due to the quality and consistency of the market vendors.
“Almost 100 percent of the vendors sign up for all six shows, therefore the shoppers have come to rely on being able to shop their favorite vendors at each show,” she said.
The free events, which will be held Nov. 7, Dec. 5, Jan. 2, Feb. 6, March 6 and April 3, will offer antiques, art, collectibles, vintage items, home and garden decor, handmade crafts and jewelry, and more.
The hours are 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
The wide variety of craftsman and vendors will have such things like antique and primitive furniture, handmade and vintage jewelry, vintage glassware, collectible china, framed original art, home decor, photography, faux finished furniture and decor, aromatherapy oils and soap, dish gardens, pet portraits, Native American silver and turquoise jewelry on display.
Ramey said there will be great food and refreshments available, along with Tom’s Traveling Tunes playing its favorite music while shoppers roam among the market vendors.
“We have a few spaces still available for qualified vendors,” she said.
Those interested are encouraged to call Ramey at 549-5615.
There will be plenty of free parking in Big John’s plaza, Iguana Mia and Club Square.
The event will be held on Vincennes Boulevard between Southeast 47th Terrace and Southeast 46th Lane.
