Naples man dies in crash on I-75
A Naples make succumbed to injures suffered in a single-vehicle crash on I-75 near Golden Gate Sunday.
Derren E. Kelly, 41, was traveling north on I-75 in the outside lane near mile marker 105 at about 1:26 p.m. The asphalt in the outside lane was uneven due to recent roadway surfacing, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
His 2002 Landrover drifted within its lane onto the uneven pavement and he overcorrected, causing his vehicle to begin to rotate counterclockwise, FHP reported. The Landrover crossed both northbound lanes of I-75 and entered the grass median, struck the cable barrier, and overturned several times. Kelly was ejected from the vehicle and came to rest 75 feet from the vehicle’s final location.
He was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:34 p.m.
