Do they really need a new toy?
To the Editor,
The new taser article caught my attention. Lacking in the puff piece was any indication that those who use these nasty instruments were to be receiving any new training along with the new weapons of abuse.
All too often we read about the use of these weapons on innocent citizens.
The level of training, in my opinion, lacks proper screening. As does law enforcement in general.
Imagine how the mind of someone works after they have spent countless boring hours parked in front of the hardware store in a coffee klatch. Come on folks, three police cars parked together? Now they have a “new toy?” Bet they just can’t wait to use it!
The sheriff should not be purchasing new toys. He should be reducing his oversized force.
The money wasted on having three police cars sitting abreast in front of the hardware store would be better put to use running a bus. After all DUI is the most frequently committed crime in Lee county.
