Shell Point to present Southwest Florida Symphony in two concerts
The Southwest Florida Symphony will perform two concerts at Shell Point Retirement Community in the third annual Southwest Florida Symphony Concert Series hosted by the community according to Dawn Boren, director of resident life.
This series will feature two concerts including:
Handel’s Messiah — Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 7:30 p.m. Cost $ 15
The Southwest Florida Symphony Chorus Orchestra and guest’s soloist under the direction of Joseph Caulkins, conductor, will perform one of the most famous choral works ever written, Messiah. Messiah has the power to thrill and inspire audiences worldwide. Annual performances of the SWFL Symphony Chorus, Chamber Orchestra and Guest Soloists of this magnificent work have become a Southwest Florida tradition and a perfect start to the Holiday.
Bach & More — Friday, March 19, 2010 at 7:30p.m. Cost $ 20
Rich in soaring strings, this concert features two celebrated Bach works (from father and son), a dazzling oboe solo and Schubert’s mass in “G” with the angelic voices of the Symphony Chamber Chorus. This is music at its best…varied supremely crafted and beautiful in every note, featuring Dione Chandler, principle oboe, and SWFL Symphony Chamber Chorus.
Williams: Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis
JS Bach: Oboe Concerto in “G” minor (Dion Chandler, Oboe)
CPE Bach: Sinfonia
Schubert: Mass in “G” (with Chamber Chorus and guests)
“Shell Point residents and visitors have shown a deep appreciation of symphony music,” said Boren in a prepared statement. “This will be the third season that the Southwest Florida Symphony has performed a series at Shell Point, and it has become a huge success. The Southwest Florida Symphony Series is just one of the many concert and speaker series that Shell Point offers throughout the year.”

The concerts are held in The Village Church auditorium on the Island at Shell Point, located in Fort Myers just off Summerlin Road, two miles before the Sanibel causeway.
