Lee County jail inmate found ‘non-responsive’
A Lee County Jail inmate was found non-responsive in his cell Thursday, a sheet tied around his neck.
The unidentified man was discovered at 10:25 p.m. during a routine medication pass at the Jail with medical staff, officials said.
Lee County corrections deputies spotted the inmate and they and medical staff members immediately started CPR, officials said.
EMS responded and took over rescue attempts and the man was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital.
He was pronounced dead at 11:15 p.m.
The name of the inmate is being withheld pending notification of next of kin and the incident is currently under investigation, officials said.
