The city of Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Department will host a free movie in the park from 8-9:30 p.m. Saturday at Camelot Park.
Parks and Recreation special events coordinator Todd King said the city attempted to show a movie in May, but due to rain the event had to be canceled.
He said the Pixar movie, “Bolt,” will be the first movie shown Saturday. The movie, which is rated G, is about a superhero dog.
Camelot Park is located at 1718 S.W. 52nd Terrace. King said the park is in the southwest Cape, just north of Cape Harbour.
King explained that to show the movie, Parks and Recreation utilizes a giant blowup screen with a high end projector.
He said approximately 300 to 400 people have attended the movie in the park event in the past.
“The focus is to bring something to people’s neighborhood parks,” King said, adding that the movie provides families with “an evening under the stars at the park.”
“We usually try to set up somewhere near the playground,” he said.
Families are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and snacks. King said people can bring “whatever they want to have a great outdoor experience in their neighborhood park.”
A vendor will be set up to provide food for purchase, including items like popcorn, candy and drinks.
Six movies are scheduled for this year starting in October, according to King.
“As we get into the winter months our movies will start earlier,” he said, adding that they will have to wait for the sun to go down to project the movie Saturday.
“We hope this will be a great event for people to come out and enjoy their neighborhood park,” King said.
The next movie will be shown Oct. 25 at Jaycee Park at 4215 S.E. 20th Ave., following the 12th Annual Fall Kids’ Festival. King said families can expect it to be a G-rated Halloween-themed movie.
