Helen S. Dudley

Helen S. Dudley, 83, of Janesville, Wis., died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at Oak Park Place in Madison, Wis. She was born in Evansville, Wis., on May 21, 1926, the daughter of Theodore “Sever” and Anna (Thomas) Hatlevig and was a 1944 graduate of Evansville High School. She married Joseph Dudley on Nov. 2, 1946, in Janesville at St. Patrick’s Rectory.

She was a resident of Janesville and Matlacha. She worked for Libby McNeils and Libby (which later became Seneca) in the human resources department before retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, and the American Legion Auxiliary in Janesville and on Pine Island. She enjoyed playing bingo, fishing, putting together puzzles, crosswords, Crypto Quotes in the newspaper and gardening.

She is survived by four children, Regina (Steven) Tomlin of Waunakee, James (Nancy) Dudley of Madison, Daniel (Sharon) Dudley of Oregon and Marianne (Roger) Noss of Matlacha; five grandchildren, Travis, Seth (Katie), Sara, Molli and Andy; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Maysen; sister-in-law, Marilyn Hatlevig of Janesville; best friend and cousin, Martha Myers of Janesville; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; two brothers, Wayne and Kenneth Hatlevig; and a sister, Lola Erbs.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 5, at Schneider Apfel Schneider and Schneider Funeral Home, with Chaplain Linda O’Leary of HopsiceCare Inc. officiating and burial was held at Mt. Olive Cemetery.

The family would like to express its deepest gratitude to the staff of Mercy Hospice, HospiceCare Inc., Dr. Shekani and his wonderful staff for their support and excellent care during her short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Also, special thanks to Lisa and her staff at Oak Park Place in Madison for their great care.
