Robert Carl Johnson
Robert Carl Johnson Jr., 86, of North Fort Myers, passed away on Aug. 11, 2009. He was born on June 19, 1923 in Chicago, Il to Robert C. Johnson, Sr. and Ruth Elyse Marie Johnson. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Demolition Department as a “Flame Thrower”. He moved to the area in 1956 then to Dade City, Fla. and then back to Matlacha Isles, in 1989. He was the owner of Calypso Restaurant and Lounge in Fort Myers Beach and Valencia Restaurant in Dade City. He enjoyed playing cards, gambling, fishing, thoroughbred horse training and racing and water skiing. He was a deputy Sheriff in Allegan, Michigan. He attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cape Coral.
He is survived by his loving family including his wife, Ethel Irene Johnson of North Fort Myers; children, Robert C. Johnson, III of Shawmut, MT. Vicki Lyn (Al) Salazar of Shawmut, MT, Trebor William Johnson of Dade City, Susan Burtle, Bruce Adams and Maurena Adams; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and on great-great-grandson; siblings Jeanne (Richard Shore) Smith of Matlacha, Jay (Mary) Johnson of St. James City and Jill Johnson of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by his son, Guy Whitney-Syd Johnson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14 at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, 1630 WE Pine Island Road, Cape Coral. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15 at the funeral home. Entombment with military honors will follow.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to Hope Hospice, 2430 Diplomat Parkway, Cape Coral. Arrangements are by Coral Ridge Funeral Home and Cemetery, Cape Coral.
