The American Legion Auxiliary recently got some exciting news when they attended the Constitutional Conference last week. The conference was held in Punta Gorda where the 13th District president and her staff presented trophies and certificates of appreciation among the 15 units who participated in 17 different programs during the year.

The American Legion Unit 136 of Pine Island received three first place trophies, one for Veterans Affairs, one for Girls State and one for Public Relations. The Pine Island group also received two second place trophies for Legislation and Historian. A trophy also was presented for getting 100 percent membership by the end of May and were awarded 16 certificates of appreciation. The women are very proud and it appears their hard work paid off.

Other Legion news

Now we are looking forward for the convention which takes place in Orlando this week. A few of the members of our post, SAL and Auxiliary are going and we are hoping to come back with some rewards.

Don’t forget the July 4 parade. The American Legion will have fire works in the evening as well as food and music all afternoon and evening and we hope to see you there.
