Defendant receives 15 years for slaying of Cape man in ’07
Ronnie Perez was sentenced to 15 years in prison Tuesday, the maximum sentence for manslaughter.
Perez was sentenced by Lee Circuit Judge Edward Volz for his role in the death of Cape Coral resident William Lowell in June 2007.
He had been convicted by a jury Feb. 27.
Perez allegedly stabbed and cut Lowell 33 times following a night of drug and alcohol use, with two knife wounds to Lowell’s heart and lungs which proved fatal.
During the trial it was discovered that sexual activity between the two men sparked the violent confrontation.
State’s Attorney Office spokeswoman Samantha Syoen said Volz gave Perez the maximum sentence allowed for manslaughter, which is a second-degree felony.
The case was prosecuted by Ed Ferguson, with Zachary Gill, who stepped in for Stephanie Hoffman, who had a medical emergency.
