Police: Man batters pregnant woman for refusing hug
A Cape Coral man was arrested after he slapped and threw a chair and motorcycle helmet at a pregnant woman after she refused to hug him during an altercation Wednesday night, according to statements made to police.
Felix Cantalcio Garcia, 18, was charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant victim after police determined he was the primary aggressor in a physical altercation between the two at approximately 7:08 p.m. in the 1100 block of Country Club Boulevard, states a police report.
When the 22-week pregnant victim refused to hug Garcia, he reportedly slapped her in the cheek and forehead, then threw a chair and motorcycle helmet at her. The helmet hit the victim in the right forearm and left a red mark when she raised her arm in defense, police said.
According to Garcia, the woman swung at him during the argument, then spit at him and threw a CD rack at him. Garcia “slapped her hand away from hitting him” in self-defense, he told officers.
Garcia admitted to throwing a chair, but denied throwing the helmet.
Garcia’s grandmother, who was present during the altercation, told police Garcia hit the victim in the face, according to reports. The grandmother declined to provide further statements.
Garcia was placed under arrest and taken to the Lee County Jail in apparent good health, reports state.
He remained in custody Thursday on $5,000 bond, according to booking records.
