Donald R. Knoll

Donald R. Knoll, 76, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009 in Gaymont Nursing Center in Norwalk. He was born Sept. 11, 1932 in Norwalk to the late Arthur and Ruth M. (Ayres) Knoll and lived in the Norwalk area most of his life and enjoyed living in St. James City for 20 years after his retirement.

He was a member and usher of St. Paul Catholic Church in Norwalk and Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Bokeelia. Don was a veteran and Purple Heart recipient of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a former employee of the Kuhlman Instrument Company and was a former laboratory technician for Tenneco in Milan, Ohio. Don is a member of Firelands Post 2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Norwalk and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Bokeelia. He enjoyed wood working, fishing, bingo and shuffleboard. Don also enjoyed painting and artistic crafts.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Anne (LaConte) Knoll of Norwalk and St. James City and by his son and daughter-in-law, bob and Sheila Knoll of Jupiter, Florida. Don is also survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Toni and David Griffith of Norwalk, Tracy and Richard Stang of Norwalk and Virginia and Charles Blystone of Norwalk, 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, his sister Sondra Carsten of Mcadow Grove, Nebraska and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Knoll and is survived by his sister-in-law Shirley Knoll of Norwalk.

Walker Funeral Home, of Norwalk was in charge of arrangements. A mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, Jan. 15 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church in Norwalk with Rev. David Cirata officiating.
