Chamber extends deadline for ‘Paint the Poles’ contest
The Greater Pine Island Chamber of Commerce has extended the deadline for submissions of entries for the “Paint the Poles” contest.
“We have received good response to date for art designs for the ‘Paint the Poles’ contest,” Chamber Executive Director Lisa Benton said. “We have received a variety of designs — all very colorful and in keeping with the Pine Island theme.”
Despite the large number of entries, more are still needed:
“There are still a good number of ear-marked poles available to be painted, and we are continuing to accept designs at our office,” she added. “We have extended the deadline for submissions until Friday, Dec. 12.”
The “pole committee” will prime the selected poles, and the chamber will supply the paint, as well as an elevated bucket or ladders, for the artists to apply their creations to the poles, which will be enjoyed and admired by people passing by on the roads.
Benton emphasized that the artists are welcome to buy their own paints, but they must keep in mind that these paints need to be “specifically labeled for signs or outdoor bulletins.”
All poles must be completed no later than Jan. 8, in order to give the general public ample time to drive around the island, view all the designs, vote on their favorite and submit their votes to the chamber before Jan. 15, Benton is reminding the participants.
