Authorities identify fatality in car crash; Cape man
A Cape Coral man lost his life Thursday after his car collided with a city utility pole.
According to a police accident report, Raymond A. Kennedy, 62, of 3744 S.E. 12th Ave., Apt. 203, left the roadway while traveling west on Cape Coral Parkway approaching Vincennes Boulevard and hit the pole.
The accident happened at about 11:45 a.m. when Kennedy’s Lexus struck the pole at 35 mph, causing a radiator fill tank to dislodge from the vehicle and strike a truck parked nearby.
Emergency workers performed CPR on scene and Kennedy was transported to the Cape Coral Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to police spokesperson Dyan Lee.
Lee said that according to an autopsy report, Kennedy died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Alcohol and drugs were not considered a factor in the crash, and Kennedy was not using a seat belt or shoulder harness at the time, though the air bag did deploy, the report indicates.
The cause of the crash is unclear but witnesses noted Kennedy did not brake prior to the crash, and police were unable to find skid marks during initial investigations, according to the crash report.
The accident caused an estimated $25,500 in damages to Kennedy’s vehicle, the parked truck and the utility pole.
