Matlacha Hookers fishing tournament winners announced

Results from the Pine Island Elementary Fishing Tournament and Derby have been announced.

"We're excited to announce the winners from the derby," Madam Julie Simpson said. "We had a fantastic turnout of adults and children. Boys and girls fished all day from the docks at Olde Fish House and Marina."

Fishing began early with the adult anglers leaving the docks at 7 a.m. on Nov. 4.

Team Risk it for the Biscuit featured Capt. Johnnie Myers, David Boarts Jr. and Brian Dennis. They earned a $1,000 prize.


"The children started around 8 a.m. with the 4th and 5th graders," Simpson said. "Once they finished up at 9:30, the 2nd and 3rd graders fished until 11:15 a.m. Then, finally, the Kindergarteners and 1st graders fished from 11:30-1 p.m. Every child fishing in the derby received a fishing pole to keep, a tournament T-shirt, a special goody bag, lunch & drinks."

Winners Adults

Team #8 - Dooley Charters: Capt. Shane Dooley, Sherry Dooley, Dalton Dooley, Chase Barnhill - Red combined length 66", Snook combined length 70.5", Slam 89.75" total of $4,000 in prizes. The Dooleys donated back to the Matlacha Hookers $500 of their prize

Team # 11 - Risk it for the Biscuit: Capt. Johnnie Myers, David Boarts Jr., Brian Dennis - Trout combined length 42" $1,000 prize

Sharks Division (4th and 5th graders)

3rd place Kay Stevens

2nd place Blake Schoal

1st place, a tie between Chris Pino (non Pine Island Elementary) and Ashlegh Ryan both fifth graders

Pinfish division (2nd and 3rd graders)

3rd place - no winner only two fish were caught

2nd place John Fox (3rd grade)

1st place Emily Bracher (3rd grade)

Shrimps division (kindergarten

and 1st grade)

3rd place Dylan Peculis (kdg)

2nd place Aaliyah Swenson (1st grade)

1st place John Lambert (1st grade)

The principal's award - Justice Lachapelle with a dog fish

And grand prize trophy goes to Dylan Peculis with his prize winning catfish of 2.05 pounds
