First seasonal celebration held in St. James City, Saturday

October 4, 2018
By ED FRANKS ( , Pine Island Eagle

St. James held its inaugural golf cart parade Saturday. The theme was 'Your favorite football team professional or college'.

"We've invited as many people as possible to participate in our football golf cart parade," owner of Olde Florida Outpost, Heather Schwarz said. "All we were asking is that they decorate their golf cart with something football. Mine has the University of Georgia flag."

"I'm hoping this gets some people out because everyone has been staying indoors because of the heat and then the red tide," Schwarz said. "We make stops along the way to all the local restaurants: Low Key Tiki, then Woody's, Waterfront and finally Ragged Ass Saloon."

On Oct. 27, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Ragged Ass Saloon will hold a "Clean Water Fundraiser" for the South Florida Clean Water Movement and Captains for Clean Water.

"Ragged Ass Saloon, Olde Florida Outpost and Pine Island's Greater Rolling Clean Water Gallery are sponsoring the event," Schwarz said. "We're spreading the love and trying to keep everybody in business. Bobby Mann will be there to DJ, and then Hester Prynn."

Schwarz is planning the annual "Small Business Saturday" which will be in November.

Organizers said they are "trying to take it to a whole new level."

In November there also will be a two-day music concert for the veterans.
