Cape man struck, killed on Cape Coral Parkway

At 5:22 this morning, Cape Coral Police responded to a traffic crash in the 900 block of Cape Coral Parkway, E., where it was reported that a vehicle struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian, identified as Steven A. Grant, 54, of Cape Coral, suffered a fatal injuries in the crash.

According to a report from the CCPD, a 2012 silver Chevy Malibu was traveling east in the inside travel lane of Cape Coral Parkway, just east of the intersection at Southeast 8th Court. Grant was reportedly walking across the eastbound lanes of Cape Coral Parkway mid-block, outside of the available marked crosswalks, when he walked in front of the Malibu.

The police report indicates Grant came to final rest in the eastbound center travel lane of Cape Coral Parkway, approximately 100 feet from the area of impact. The driver of the Malibu, who was uninjured in the accident, made a controlled stop and came to rest in the inside travel lane of Cape Coral Parkway.

Police reported that witnesses to the fatal accident indicated that several other vehicles struck the pedestrian immediately following the initial impact with the Malibu but failed to stop at the scene afterwards.
