The Beacon of HOPE held an Arts and Crafts Fundraiser, "Giving Back with Art," Tuesday, May 29. The event featured the creations of two young artists.

"Ashlynne Scalf was in our very first after school program," Beacon Executive Director Betsy Haesemeyer said. "Over the last few years. she has performed some of her high school hours here at the Beacon and this year she came to me and said 'This year I'd like to do something more because the Beacon has made such a difference in my life. She suggested this fundraiser."

Scalf recruited her friend, Victoria King, a fellow student at Cape High School, to assist with the fundraiser.

"The artwork was mostly composed of artwork my friend Victoria and I made for the show," Scalf said. "There was a variety of art, painting, photography, etc. In all we had about 35 pieces of art and a bake sale."

"This is our most successful fundraiser by the youngest Beacon committee," Haesemeyer said. "Our goal was $100 and the fundraiser raised a total of $269. All of us at the Beacon are very proud of these two young ladies. We're planning a second art show in a few months - watch the Pine Island Eagle for details."
