Pine Island VFW Post 4353 to host retirement party Saturday

Longtime Lee County Veterans Affairs Healthcare doctor Stephen Wener is retiring. A retirement party is planned for Saturday, May 19, at the Pine Island VFW Post 4353 on Stringfellow Road from noon to 4 p.m.

"Probably 80 percent of the veterans on Pine Island have seen Dr. Wener," said Peter Simmons of the VFW Post. "I can't say enough about this man he's not just a doctor, he listens and cares about his patients."

Wener graduated from the McGill University Faculty of Medicine, Montreal, Canada, in 1978 and currently works at Cape Coral Veterans Affairs on Diplomat Parkway. He specializes in internal medicine - geriatrics. He is also affiliated with Bay Pines Veterans Affairs Healthcare System and is one of 20 doctors at Bay Pines who specialize in geriatrics.

"I hope every veteran on the island comes out to the VFW to show our appreciation for everything the doctor has done for Pine Island veterans and please bring a dish," Simmons said.
