The Matlacha Hookers presented a check for $1,600 to the Pine Island Elementary School art teacher Gloria Van Duzer last Tuesday, April 17. The funds will be used exclusively for the Pine Island Elementary art program.

"These funds are as a result of the Hookers participation in ArtFest Fort Myers," former Matlacha Hooker madam Lorie Tidwell said. "The Fort Myers event was held in February featuring more than 200 artists and we 'manned' the beverage tent and kiosks. We can't thank all those who helped us raise this money."

This is the 18th year ArtFest Fort Myers has created a three-day art extravaganza that occurs the first weekend of February. More than 85,000 residents and visitors enjoyed the exceptional art by top-notch artists from across the country and around the world.

Every year, for the last 6 years, the Matlacha Hookers have volunteered to be the "Beverage Team" for ArtFest Fort Myers.

"These funds from the Hookers help us to purchase special art supplies we couldn't afford otherwise," art teacher Gloria Van Duzer said. "We can do clay and ceramics and lots of other things with the kids because of this money. I want to thank the Matlacha Hookers for all they do for Pine Island and Pine Island Elementary School"
