Thanks to all who made the Hookers' wine tasting a "groovy" success

April 11, 2018
Pine Island Eagle

To the editor:

This year the Matlacha Hookers hosted the 6th Annual wine event. Our theme Peace, Love and Wine gave our guests the chance to go back in time and get groovy to the sounds of musician Tommy Barr, who graciously donated his time to entertain us, all while enjoying our wine tastings and delicious themed appetizers. Carlos and William from C.W. Fudge not only donated their time to serve our guests but also donated all the delicious treats our guests were able to sample. Local artist Mel Meo came by the event after donating a beautiful one-of-a-kind themed painting for our guests to bid on. We thank our wonderful guests who make our event unique by coming dressed in theme! Special thanks to Stew Bennett, the club manager at Alden Pines, who provided constant guidance and assistance before and during the event and also deserved the best costume award!

Thank you to all of the businesses who helped us make our 6th annual wine event a successful. Among them were Alden Pines Country Club, Castaway Realty, C.W.Fudge, Island Girl Fitness Club & Yoga Studio, Mel Meo, Publix, Sam Yaffey with Experience Realty, & The Island Grill - without their help we would not been able to raise $9,400 to donate to the Beacon of HOPE's senior program. Thank you Beacon of HOPE for taking such great care of our island seniors. To learn more about their organization, please visit their website www.beaconofhopepineisland.com

We look forward to having the 7th Annual wine event in February 2019 at Alden Pines. Stay tuned for details and the unveiling of the theme.

Myself and my co-chairs Darlene Widirstky & Jean Dickenson want to extend our thanks and appreciation to all of our Matlacha Hooker volunteers who help make our organization great.
