Official grand opening for Meemer’s set for this weekend

April 4, 2018

Although Meemer's has been open in the old Dairy Queen for several weeks, the restaurant will be celebrating its grand opening this weekend.

Sue and Chris Kahoun are from Chatsworth, New Jersey, where Chris owned and operated a blueberry and cranberry farm while Sue worked in the restaurant business on Long Beach Island.

"Chris' father owned restaurants and it's been a dream of his to also own a restaurant," Sue said. "My mother lives in Fort Myers and that's what brought us to this area, so when the time came we decided to relocate here and open a restaurant."

Sue has a passion for cooking especially breakfasts. Eggs, pancakes and waffles are a specialty.

"I've cooked and catered for years," Sue said. "I also bake specialty cakes. A lot of what I did in New Jersey was to create meals and when I decided to open my own place, I didn't want to compete there - so we decided to relocate some distance away."

Lunches include chicken parmesan wraps, shrimp quesadilla's, hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, pulled pork brioche, turkey club sandwiches, BLTs, grilled chicken and much more.

In the several week's Meemer's has been open, the Facebook reviews have been very good. The most recent says: "Good addition to the island. Fast service even when crowded. Clean and well run. The waffles are great and everything fresh. They asked three times if everything was alright and if we needed anything."

"Everything is just great," Marjorie Long said. "I'm having the waffle and bananas and they make it look like a sunrise with the banana slices on top of the waffle. This is an exceptional breakfast."

Meemer's is located at 10493 Stringfellow Road (just south of The Center), St. James City. It is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
